01 · SYSTEM
How it was achieved
The terminal used a two-axis coarse-pointing gimbal, a stellar-capture channel, coarse tracking, fine steering and a communication channel. A least-squares calibration based on stellar observations corrected structural and installation errors before repeated outdoor acquisition trials.
02 · EVIDENCE
Evidence snapshot
- 01
Mean open-loop pointing error reduced from 2,070.24 to 120.16 µrad.
- 02
Mean acquisition time measured at 0.908 s.
- 03
All reported trials completed acquisition in under one second.
- 04
Seven field campaigns covered varied initial attitudes.
03 · SIGNIFICANCE
Why it matters
Fast acquisition preserves more of a short satellite pass for data transfer and can reduce the overhead of reconnecting dynamic optical networks.
